Gary James' Interview With Violinist Extraordinaire)
Richard Greene
The musicians this man has worked with! It reads like a Who's Who of popular music. Bruce Springsteen, Crosby, Stills And Nash, James Taylor, Linda Rondstadt, Jerry Garcia, Bob Seger, Rod Stewart, Tony Bennett, Brian Wilson. Well, you get the idea. This guy is good! We are speaking of violinist Richard Greene, or I should say Richard Greene, Violinist Extraordinaire.
Q - I see you were born in Beverly Hills. Does that mean you come fro a showbiz family? Were your parents actors, producers, directors, musicians?
A - I was actually born in Los Angeles. My family was in real estate. My father had us move to just within the eastern most border of Beverly Hills so we could take advantage of their superior school system.
Q - You gained fame playing with Bill Monroe, yet you've played with quite a few Rock singers and musicians. People don't realize the influence that Country music has had on Rock music, do they?
A - Today's listeners of commercial music have no idea because of the standardization and sterilization of Rock music. It's mostly mechanical bullshit.
Q - You've recorded and performed with so many name acts in the business. How is it that you got to do that? Did you have an agent? Is it word of mouth? How does that work?
A - No agent. Mostly word of mouth. One thing leads to another.
Q - Your band, Seatrain was produced by George Martin. Did any of The Beatles by chance ever stop into the studio while you were recording or mixing?
A - No, but George Martin had all of his Beatles hand written notebooks at the studio which we freely perused!
Q - You teach violin? Can you really teach someone to play in all of the different styles you play in? Is that possible?
A - Yes, it is very possible because I taught molecule to molecule with extremely detailed, physical information and demonstrate by precise and slowed down examples.
