Gary James' Interview With
Wendy O. Williams
"The Wild Woman of Rock" is back! We're talking about none other than the infamous Wendy O. Williams. Wendy O. made quite a name for herself and her group The Plasmatics a few years ago. Wendy has split from The Plasmatics and just released a new album titled "W.O.W”" (Passport/ Jem Records). Produced by Gene Simmons of Kiss, the album also contains tracks by Ace Frehley, Paul Stanley, Eric Carr and Mitch Weissman.
Q - So much of your past stage show centered around Destruction, whether it was chain-sawing a guitar or blowing up a car. What does all of that really have to do with Rock music?
A - Well, it's just who I am, you know? It's part of one of the ways I express myself through hard, heavy Rock 'n' Roll. Another way I express myself is striking out at the icons of a society that's completely obsessed with conspicuous consumption. Give me money or give me action and I'll take the action and adventure every time.
Q - Do you still do those same things on stage?
A - I'm still the same person I've always been. I can't say exactly what I'll do; I'm an excessive person. Talk about violence... I don't do anything violent. Talk about violence, what's going on in Nicaragua? What's going on in El Salvador? That's violent. What are they doing to the planet with chemicals and acid rain? That's violent. What are people doing to each other? Raping. That's violent. I'm striking out at an icon that has no life. There's a big difference between what has life and what doesn't. I mean. I've been a vegetarian for 16 years.
